Most Common KitchenAid Dishwasher Error Codes:

  • 1-1 or F1E1

    Relay Stuck on Control Board: Disconnect the dishwasher from power for 5 minutes and see if this clears the code. If not, check the wiring between the relay switch and the control board, if no issues with the wiring the control board must be replaced. 

  • 1-2 or F1E2

    Damaged or Corrupted Memory on Control Board: Disconnect from power for 5 minutes and see if the code clears. If it does not, the main control board needs to be replaced.

  • 2-1 or F2E1

    Stuck Button on the User Interface Control

  • 2-2 or F2E2

    User Control Interface Not Communicating with Control Board: Disconnect the power and check the wiring between the control board and control interface. If the wiring looks good, the control board or interface must be replaced.

  • 3-3 or F3E3

    Thermistor/OWI Sensor Failure: Disconnect from power and check the wiring between the OWI sensor/thermistor and control board. Replace any wires that are damaged or broken. If all wiring is good, replaced the OWI sensor/thermistor. 

  • 4-4 or F4E4

    Error Between Electronic Control Board and Circulation Pump Motor: Disconnect from power and check the wire harness on the circulation pump and fix any faulty wires. Replace the motor assembly or circulation pump.

  • 5-1 or F5E1

    Door Switch Failure: This code appears if the door is not shut properly 4 seconds after pressing the start button. If the door is shut correctly, then there is likely an issue with the door switch and it needs to be replaced.

  • 5-2 or F5E2

    Door Not Opening Detected: The dishwasher is programmed for the door to be opened before another cycle is started. If a cycle has run and the door has not been opened before running another cycle, this code will appear. If this is not the case, replacing the door switch must happen.


    the dishwasher expects the door to be opened before a new cycle is started. If you ran a cycle and have not opened the door before running another, this code will appear. If this is not the case, the door switch may need to be replaced. 

  • 6-1 or F6E1

    Dishwasher Won't Fill: Ensure that there are no items stuck under the overfill float. If the float is stuck in the up position, the dishwasher cannot fill.

  • 6-2 or F6E2

    Failure with Water Inlet Valve: Unplug the dishwasher from power and remove both the bottom front panel and the toe panel. Check all wiring at the water inlet valve. Replace any faulty wires or replace the valve.

  • 6-3 or F6E3

    Suds or Air Detected in Water Pump: When too much detergent is used, the dishwasher will fill up with too many suds. The dishwasher will automatically run the drain pump for 3 minutes to remove excess suds. If suds still remain, they will have to be removed by hand.

  • 6-4 or F6E4

    Float Switch is Open: Look to see if the overflow switch is stuck or if an item is blocking it. When the dishwasher is off, check to make sure the water inlet valve is properly closing.

  • 6-6 or F6E6

    Incoming Water is Too Cold: Any time the water temperature goes below 110 F this code will appear. The temperature should be between 110 to 120 degrees F. If the water is in between this range, then the OWI/thermistor or the control board needs to be replaced.

  • 7-1 or F7E1

    Heating Element Not Working: Disconnect the unit from power and inspect the heating unit for any damage. Replace if necessary. 

  • 7-2 or F7E2

    Heating Element Not Shutting Off: Turn the dishwasher's power off for 5 minutes and see if this clears the code. If not, the control board needs to be replaced.

  • 8-1 or F8E1

    Draining Slow: Disconnect from power and turn off the water valve. Check the drain to see if it is being blocked and remove it. If the path is clear, it is likely that the drain pump needs to be replaced.

  • 8-2 or F8E2

    Drain Pump Error: Disconnect from power and shut off the water valve. Check the drain pump's wiring or replace the drain pump.

  • 9-1 or F9E1

    Electronic Control Board Cannot Detect Diverter Disc Position: To direct water through the spray arms, the dishwasher has a diverter disc. The diverter disc is monitored by a motor and sends its position to the control board. 


    Disconnect the unit from power and check the wiring incoming to the diverter disc. Reconnect or replace any broken or loose wires. If this is not the issue, the control board or diverter disc must be replaced.

  • 9-2 or F9E2

    Diverter Motor Stuck On: This error will appear when the diverter relay is faulty and needs to be replaced.

  • 9-3 or F9E3

    Diverter Disc Missing: The diverter disc must be replaced.

  • 9-4 or F9E4

    Lower Spray Arm Error: Check for any obstructions interfering with the spray arms. If nothing is blocking them, check all wiring and replace the spray arms if the wiring is good.

  • 10-1 or FAE1

    Detergent Dispenser Error: Unplug the unit from power and check the wiring between the detergent dispenser and control board. Fix any loose or damaged wires or replace the detergent dispenser.

  • 10-2 or FAE2

    Vent Wax Moto Electrical Error: Disconnect the unit from power and check the wires between the vent and motor circuit. If no issues are found, replace the vent wax motor.

  • 10-3 or FAE3

    Drying Fan Error: Disconnect the unit from power and check the wiring from the control panel to the drying fan. Fix any issues or replace the drying fan.
