Most Common KitchenAid Dishwasher Error Codes:

  • 1-1 or F1E1

    Relay Stuck on Control Board: Unplug the dishwasher from power for 5 minutes to see if the code clears itself. If not, it is likely faulty wiring or the control board needs to be replaced.

  • 1-2 or F1E2

    Damaged or Corrupted Memory on Control Board: Disconnect the dishwasher from power for 5 minutes to see if this clears the code. If not, replace the control board.

  • 2-1 or F2E1

    Stuck Button on the User Interface Control: A button on the control interface is stuck on.

  • 2-2 or F2E2

    User Control Interface Not Communicating with Control Board: Disconnect the dishwasher from power and check all wires for any faulty wiring. If no issues are detected, either replace the control board or the user interface.

  • 3-3 or F3E3

    Thermistor/OWI Sensor Failure: Disconnect the unit from power and check for any faulty wiring between the OWI sensor/thermistor and the control board. Replace the OWI sensor/thermistor if no issues are detected.

  • 4-4 or F4E4

    Error Between Electronic Control Board and Circulation Pump Motor: Disconnect the unit from power and check for faulty wires on the circulation pump. Replace the motor assembly and circulation pump if no issues are detected.

  • 5-1 or F5E1

    Door Switch Failure: This code will appear anytime the dishwasher is started and the door is not properly closed after 4 seconds of hitting the start button. Check to make sure the door is shut and if it is, replace the door switch.

  • 5-2 or F5E2

    Door Not Opening Detected: The dishwasher is built to expect the door to be opened before a new cycle is started. If you have not opened the door before running a second cycle, this code will appear. If the door is shut, replace the door switch.

  • 6-1 or F6E1

    Dishwasher Won't Fill: Check to make sure nothing is stuck under the overfill float and if there is, remove the items. The dishwasher will not fill if the overfill float is stuck up.

  • 6-2 or F6E2

    Failure with Water Inlet Valve: Unplug the unit from power and remove both the toe panel and front bottom panel. Check the wiring on the water inlet valve. If no issues are detected, replace the wiring harness. 

  • 6-3 or F6E3

    Suds or Air Detected in Water Pump: When too much detergent is used, there will be an excess amount of suds in the dishwasher. This code will appear while the dishwasher runs the drain pump for an additional 3 minutes to remove the excess suds. If suds are still present when the cycle completes, these will have to be removed by hand.

  • 6-4 or F6E4

    Float Switch is Open: Check to make sure there are no obstructions at the overflow switch. Check the wiring at the water inlet valve to ensure it is properly closing when the dishwasher is off.

  • 6-6 or F6E6

    Incoming Water is Too Cold: This code appears any time the water temperature is below 110 F. The water should be between 110 to 120 F. If the temperature is in this range, replace the control board or the thermistor/OWI.

  • 7-1 or F7E1

    Heating Element Not Working: Unplug the unit from power and inspect the heating element for any damage, replace it if need be. If not, check all wires at the heating element.

  • 7-2 or F7E2

    Heating Element Not Shutting Off: Unplug the dishwasher from power for 5 minutes to see if this clears the code. If not, the control board needs to be replaced.

  • 8-1 or F8E1

    Draining Slow: Disconnect the dishwasher from power and shut off the water inlet valve. Check the drain for any signs of it being blocked and remove the blockages. If the path is clear, check the wiring at the drain pump, or replace the pump.

  • 8-2 or F8E2

    Drain Pump Error: Disconnect the dishwasher from power and shut off the water valve. Check all wires at the drain pump or replace the pump.

  • 9-1 or F9E1

    Electronic Control Board Cannot Detect Diverter Disc Position

  • 9-2 or F9E2

    Diverter Motor Stuck On: This error code indicates the diverter relay is faulty and must be replaced.

  • 9-3 or F9E3

    Diverter Disc Missing: Check the diverter disc for any damage and replace it.

  • 9-4 or F9E4

    Lower Spray Arm Error: Check to ensure no obstructions are blocking the spray arm. Check the wiring at the spray arm for damage or replace the spray arm.

  • 10-1 or FAE1

    Detergent Dispenser Error: Disconnect the unit from power and check the wires between the control board and the detergent dispenser. Replace the dispenser if no issues with the wiring is detected.

  • 10-2 or FAE2

    Vent Wax Moto Electrical Error: turn the dishwasher's power off and check the wires at the vent wax motor circuit. If no issues are detected, replace the ven wax motor.

  • 10-3 or FAE3

    Drying Fan Error: Disconnect from power and check the wires between the control panel and the drying fan. If no issues are detected, replace the drying fan.
